To my knowledge only Colorado and Vermont have introduced legislation requiring the use of helmets by anyone under the age of 18 while skiing or snowboarding. Neither of these bills have been passed, as far as I know. So the short answer is, no it is not a law, but if you are under 18 and living at home, and your parents are paying to keep you alive as well as pay for the luxury of your skiing/snowboarding habits, then you should give them the respect they deserve and give into their wishes to keep you safe.
As mostly everyone else has said, helmets are very comfortable if fitted properly and just because you ski or ride well doesn’t mean that other people do. On at least two occasions in the past five years other people have collided with me because THEY weren’t paying attention. In both cases my head made contact with hard packed snow and I believe without a helmet I probably would have had a concussion both times.
It is a rare day I do not ski with a helmet. It has got to be really hot and the slopes have to be really empty.
No, it is not mandatory to wear a helmet.
No, but why not. They are comfortable, save your head from being cracked open, really warm. And most people wear them anyways.
No, and I wouldn’t impose it on a teen who is a good skier, but for anyone it is good sense and especially for kids who are just learning to ski.
no but there really isn’t any reason you shouldn’t wear one… good and experienced skiers fall all the time… it was a good and experienced snowboarder who crashed into a tree and died at bristol back in february
It depends on what country you are in. A helmet will lessen any head injury but not prevent them. It is not what you may do on the slope but what some one else may do to you. Think not of yourself but of your parents and the distress they would be in if you were seriously injured and a helmet could have prevented some of the injury.
Get your head on backwards and listen to some common sense and put on a good skid lid.
Mine has saved my life at least once and prevented serious injury several times when I was hit by other sliders.
No laws requiring them, but some resorts might require helmets.
